This piece from the Givenchy Fall 2011 Couture collection focused on one of the foundational techniques of couture and the detailing required to create a couture garment. The embroidery method used for this piece is known as “Caviar Beading.” The technique utilizes extremely small beads that are approximately the size of caviar. For this piece, thousands of caviar beads were individually hand sewn into the fabric to create an effect to resemble the plant, Bird of Paradise. This intricate couture technique can often take hundreds of hours at the atelier for a single garment.
